I've seen guys use a linear bearing and shaft setup to slide the frontend forward easily. They sell them all over Ebay at decent prices, and in various sizes. Most guys find something in the 1"-1.25" diameter shaft will hold the weight of a steel tilt. Might go heavier if the metal was really heavy!

I have a fiberglass front end for my 74 cuda drag car project. Need to find a sliding hinge kit to be able to slide the front end forward before tilting. really dont want to attach the bottom portions of the fenders to the chassis.Sliding forward first would solve the problem of the fender bottoms rubbing the doors during the tilt.

Mounted the latch in the bottom, and the pin in the top. I reach under each fender and release the latches, then go to the front and pull forward on the frontend, and it opens up. I have truck tailgate cables attached to each side to set the stopping point when it's fully open. DaveH.
